Welcome to Wilkes County
Our friendly office atmosphere offers an agent,
personally selected to fit your needs.
Residents
of and visitors to Wilkes County seldom are at a loss for something to do with the wide array of cultural and
recreational activities available. There are nine municipal parks in Wilkes -- three in Wilkesboro and six in
North Wilkesboro -- as well as Stone Mountain State Park and W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir.
The
Yadkin River Greenway is a great place to walk, run, or bike and
offers beautiful views and insights into our community's rich history. Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy the
facilities at the Wilkes YMCA, and several local golf courses. We also have a more complete guide to
fun things to do in Wilkes.
The Wilkes Art Gallery and
Wilkes Arts Council each sponsor a number of community events throughout the year. Each spring, music fills the
air as Wilkes Community College welcomes
musicians and guests from all over the world to the annual MerleFest held the last weekend in April each year. During the summer months, the Blue
Ridge Wagon Train travels between Wilkes and Ashe counties. In the fall, the
Brushy Mountain Apple
Festival, and the Wilkes
Agricultural Fair draw tens of thousands of visitors to the area.
We have a
varied array of entertainment from local theatre to professional Broadway shows and entertainers. The Walker
Center has been host to Broadway hits, Motown greats, North Carolina's Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Boys' Choir,
David Copperfield and many, many more. The
Wilkes Playmakers is a community theatre organization dedicated to performance art in Wilkes County. It is
open to all ages and features "Seniors on Stage" and "Children's Theatre", which includes an after-school
program.
